With the first week of the NFL preseason wrapped up, we take a look at the highlights of the 31 Terps across the league.
Defensive leaders
In addition to Bears LB Ruben Hyppolite, Baltimore Ravens safety Beau Brade and Atlanta Falcons linebacker Josh Woods both finished leading their team in tackles in week one. Woods forced a fumble on Detroit QB Hendon Hooker, leading Falcons CB Dee Alford to scoop up the ball, while finishing fourth on defense with a PFF grade of 91.4 after finishing with a team-high six tackles and five solo. Brade, meanwhile, finished with seven total tackles and six solo – both team highs – while adding a pass deflection in Baltimore’s 24-15 win vs. Indianapolis. "I think Beau is flying around and playing very well. He is the first guy in the weight room. I saw him in there this morning, and he was lamenting the plays he didn't make. You appreciate that mindset. Very determined, serious, he's doing a very good job,” head coach John Harbaugh said ahead of preseason.
Dolphins vs. Miami
In a game that featured three Maryland rookies on the sidelines, Jordan Phillips had four total tackles, including a solo tackle,e while fellow rookie Ruben Hyppolite led the Bears with six total tackles, five being solo tackles, as well as adding a tackle for loss. Dante Trader Jr, meanwhile, was inactive.
Vikings WRs
Against the Texans, the rookie receiver reeled in a pair of catches on two targets for 14 yards. With Jordan Addison suspended and Rondale Moore suffering a significant injury, the former Maryland star will be able to make his dent alongside Justin Jefferson to open the season. Jeshaun Jones, meanwhile, is in the mix for the 53-man roster as he hauled in a 20-yard catch on his lone reception on Saturday.
Linemen
Tommy Akingbesote played multiple drives for the Cowboys against the Rams but did not record any stats. Akingbesote has looked good in training camp so far and is looking to solidify his spot on the Cowboys 53-man roster.
Josh Kaltenberger played multiple drives for the Chargers against the Saints. The Chargers have dealt with injuries along the offensive line during training camp and will look to crack the 53-man roster as an undrafted free agent.
Corey Bullock played a lot of the Ravens’ game against the Colts at center where he has seemed to become the backup center after being on the practice squad all last season.
Other notable
Kansas City safety Glen Miller recorded a tackle in the Chiefs matchup vs the Cardinals. Miller will be looking to crack the Chiefs 53-man roster as an undrafted free agent.
Tampa Bay WR Rakim Jarrett recorded one catch for 18 yards in a 29-7 win vs. Tennessee, while Titans TE Chig Okonkwo had just one catch for ten yards with QB Cam Ward making his NFL debut.
RB Ty Johnson has seemed to solidify a spot on the Bills 53 man roster after his performance last season, and backed it up this week, rushing for 8.67 yards per carry.
Deonte Banks had a solid three-tackle day along with a pass breakup as he looks to solidify his starting spot on the Giants defense.
Of the Terp veterans in the NFL, Chad Ryland had the best week as he went perfect on his PATs and field goals, including the game winner over the Chiefs.
Bills rookie WR Kaden Prather was inactive for Buffalo’s loss vs. New York Giants as he fights to make the 53-man roster.
