The offseason continued to hit Maryland through the weekend after tight end Corey Dyches became the latest player to announce his departure when the portal opens on Monday. The latest news surrounding Maryland football with bowl destination announced later today, a portal target emerging while landing a PWO commit. Maryland’s bowl outlook moves...after a weekend of conference championship games, Maryland football will learn their official bowl fate on Sunday afternoon, though the overwhelming projections hadn't changed through the week with Las Vegas the overwhelming projection for the Terps. After the full slate of championship games on Saturday, that's now changed. Both Action Network and CBS Sports now project Maryland to face Auburn in Nashville, while The Athletic, USA Today and FOX Sports all have the Terps still landing in the Sin City, though FOX still projects a Maryland-USC matchup. With the Utes the commonly still projected opponent, a potential Maryland-Utah matchup would mark the first-ever between the two programs. Maryland hasn’t faced Auburn since 1983 as the Tigers hold a slim 2-1 series lead against Maryland. Maryland offers portal OL...while Maryland has watched a handful of players announce their intention to depart from the program with the transfer portal set to open on Monday, the staff officially jumped into the mix for another portal offensive lineman. Former Purdue lineman Josh Kaltenberger will now have a chance to stay within the Big Ten after announcing a Maryland offer on Saturday. Kaltenberger enters the portal with ample experience, appearing in 26 games following his redshirt season before starting in four games--splitting at right tackle and center--in 2023. “I definitely didn’t think about four or five weeks ago being a tackle,” Kaltenberger said midseason about the position switch. “It’s been just kinda crazy now, just practicing the different positions. But, we’re just learning as we go, handling adversity accordingly.” While Maryland will need to restock its starting offensive line in 2024, finding a starting center is a priority with both Aric Harris and Mike Purcell exhausting their eligibility. Kaltnberger announced he will officially visit Maryland this upcoming week, giving the Terps their first chance at closing on a portal target. Maryland lands '24 PWO QB...meanwhile, Maryland added a 2024 PWO commit on Saturday afternoon after Maret (DC) quarterback Roman Jensen announced his plans to suit up in College Park beginning in the fall. Jensen, who began his career at Red Land (PA), threw for over 9,200 yards and posted 128 total touchdowns while completing 77.4% of his passes in his career. Jensen was also named the DC Touchdown Club High School Player of the Week earlier this season, while being named MVP of the DC title game after leading Maret to a win over Coolidge High School.
