Three-star offensive tackle Andre Roye is slated to make his commitment on September 22nd, but admitted it might be slightly pushed back.
“I might push it back to that weekend but I don’t know,” Roye said. While the exact date is subject to potentially change, Roye is embracing the final stages of his recruitment as Maryland, NC State, Penn State, and Rutgers sit in his top four. He got a chance to see each school this summer, including a three-stop day back on July 31 to Maryland, Penn State and Rutgers.
“I stopped by Maryland that morning and talked to coach Locks, coach Braswell, coach Brawley [Evans], then went to Rutgers, then went up to Penn State then back home,” Roye added.
He also took in Maryland’s season-opener with four-star lineabcker Jaishawn Barham, Virginia Tech verbal Cam Johnson, Boston College verbal Jude Bowry, and 2023 four-star Christian Garrett. “I only stayed for the first half but it was a good first half. Maryland definitely improved from the last couple of years so yeah, I was impressed.”
Roye got a chance to watch the offensive line protect Tagovailoa through the opening 30 minutes, but he admitted the staff has made it clear that offensive tackle is the clear priority. Outside of the proximity to home, Roye details what the Terps’ pitch has been in terms of his development. “They got coach [Brian Braswell], NFL, been there around all those guys, coached hall of fame left tackles, stuff like that. Definitely one of the pitches is we can get you there, we got a coach that’s been there and he knows what it takes to get there and that’s just a good teacher.”
Roye’s next visit will be to Penn State when they host Auburn next weekend for the White Out game, his first chance to see Happy Valley since the Lasch Bash. “It was a good experience. I had fun up there. I enjoy it just getting up there, seeing all the coaches and everything so I definitely like it up there.”
St. Frances is set to take on Franklin (MD) at Morgan State on Saturday afternoon and with the team ready to show the season-opening loss is behind them, the senior tackle knows what he wants his senior film to show.
“From sophomore year, without a doubt I was just a raw talent so in the spring I feel like I showed I’m not just a raw talent and that I’m working during the time off. Now, everything is the same. Everything’s clicked for me, I know the playbook, I play fast, I don’t second-guess anything so now it’s just proving it to everybody. I know I got it but I’m just trying to prove it.”
Roye is rated a three-star prospect and an 88 overall by 247Sports, sitting as the tenth-best prospect in Maryland.
