Maryland has picked up another local commitment in the trenches as St. Frances (MD) three-star interior lineman Logan Bennett has signed with Maryland, becoming the latest local offensive lineman to join the Terps' 2024 class after signing on Wednesday morning. Bennett narrowed his focus on Maryland after visiting for the Penn State game before solidifying his decision during his Dec. 8 official visit. Maryland has been tracking the 6-foot-5, 310-pound lineman ever since the start of his junior season with the Panthers’ starting tackle viewed locally among the under-the-radar linemen within the DMV. Bennett had Maryland on his shortlist for official visits back in June before opting to pull the trigger on his pledge to Michigan State back in late June. Maryland always remained in contact, and when Mel Tucker was removed as the Spartans’ head coach, Bennett’s recruitment slightly reopened and the Terps stayed consistent ever since. "I think one of the main things, the Big Ten. I definitely wanted to stay in the Big Ten. I love staying home. That’s like my favorite thing. Just being able to stay close to home and be able to come home when I want," Bennett told IBG. “The big thing is it’s close to home. I just feel like it’ll be a good opportunity with the way they’re losing a lot of linemen next year, so I think it’ll be a good opportunity." Bennett has been to campus plenty of times over the years, but his unofficial visit for the Penn State game marked his first gameday visit of the season. Despite the 36-point loss, Bennett left the visit still focused on Maryland and announced his decommitment from the Spartans days later. Inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson led the way as Bennett's primary recruiter as Thompson continues to lead recruiting efforts at St. Frances, while offensive line coach Brian Braswell chipped in to give the Terps another lineman to restock the future at the position. “I definitely like coach Lance a lot. He’s a really cool guy,” Bennett added. “ main thing was I’m a big family guy. I like coach Locksley a lot and I definitely think the program is going in the right direction.” Bennett is planning to enroll at Maryland in January. Bennett becomes the latest lineman to join Maryland’s recruiting class, joining DeMatha (MD) three-star Terez Davis, Pallotti (MD) three-star Ryan Howerton, Loyola Blakefield (MD) three-star Trevor Szymanski, William Penn (PA) Michael McMonigle, Spring Grove (PA) Michael Hershey and St. Mary’s (MD) three-star Davon Watkins. Bennett is now rated a three-star prospect and an 85 overall by On3, sitting as the 42nd-best player in Maryland.
