Spalding four-star QB Malik Washington breaks down his top six

2025 Archbishop Spalding (MD) four-star quarterback Malik Washington has taken the next step in his recruitment, trimming his list of nearly 20 offers to a final six with Maryland, Oregon, Penn State, Syracuse, Texas A&M and Virginia Tech still in the mix. Washington, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound dual-threat quarterback, breaks down why each school made his top group. Maryland: “They have a really good message for me. Why I don’t have to go anywhere else to be good. You can stay home and be great, stuff like that. They’re also building something too. Three bowl games in a row, winning seasons, they’re on the right path.” Oregon: “They had a really good year. They stayed on me throughout the whole season. I like their style of offense, air raid style. I’m interested to see how they transition to when they play other teams in the Big Ten, if it works or if it’s something different.” Penn State: “Of course the atmosphere is always crazy, White Out games and regular games. They’ve got a really good fanbase.” Syracuse: “I think they’re building something over there definitely. The new staff they’ve got, they’ve been kind of rolling recently so I just kind of want to see what they’ve got to offer. I’ll get to know them as the live period opens back up.” Texas A&M: “The head coach, coach Elko has something going good at Duke. He’s building his culture right over there. I think he’s going, with a little more resources, be able to do the same thing at A&M.” Virginia Tech: “They’ve been on me from the start. They were the first school to offer me. They’re building the right things over there. They’re on their steps trying to climb to the top and I think I could be a good piece to that.” Malik Washington made himself a familiar face in College Park through the 2023 season, visiting for four home games including a pair of trips in November to watch the Terps host Michigan and Penn State. Washington made a trip to Happy Valley for the White Out game, while the Nittany Lions already have Fairview (CO) three-star Bekkem Kritza in the fold. Oregon also hosted Washington for an unofficial visit, though head coach Dan Lanning has an early commitment from four-star QB Akili Smith Jr., the son of former Oregon and Bengals QB Akili Smith. Texas A&M is making a renewed push with Mike Elko now in place in College Station, while the Hokies narrowly beat the Terps to become the first school to offer as assistants Tyler Bowen and Elijah Brooks lead the way with Washington. As a junior, Washington led Spalding to back-to-back MIAA championships after defeating McDonogh, 40-7, in mid-November with Mike Locksley and Josh Gattis watching along the sideline. He threw for nearly 2,300 yards while completing 62.3% of his passes and posted 27 total touchdowns. Washington doesn’t have any visits set yet, but the four-star quarterback plans to take his official visits in April before making his commitment. Malik Washington is rated a four-star prospect and a 90 overall by On3.
