Maryland has picked up another local commitment from Spalding (MD), a program that's been kind to them since Mike Locksley took over as head coach. Emerging defensive line target Delmar White has gone public with his pledge after telling the staff his plans to suit up in College Park during his official visit the weekend of June 21. White has been on Maryland's radar since the start of his junior season where the wrestling star proved himself among Spalding's most efficient defensive linemen alongside current Maryland freshman DL Keion Flowers. Co-defensive coordinator and area recruiter Brian Williams began building the relationship with White through his junior year into the spring. "We’ve been talking for about a year now and I’ve been going to Maryland, position meetings, talking to him so he’s been great," White added. White becomes the latest Spalding product to head to Maryland with Lavain Scruggs, Kellan Wyatt, Keyshawn and Keion Flowers in the program while 2025 targets Jayden Shipps and Malik Washington have the Terps in their top groups with commitments looming. "I like being places with a lot of my friends and playing ball with them. There will be a lot of us at Maryland," he added. Maryland kept tabs on White through the spring as Brian Williams made the trip to Severn, MD to watch White among the long list of targets during the evaluation period, but it wasn't until the first weekend of June when White made his way to campus for the Big Man camp to work out in front of head coach Mike Locksley and the staff. With Monmouth and Stony Brook previously in the mix, White picked up his first Power Four offer from Maryland days later before quickly finalizing his official visit. After former Spalding and current Maryland star Kellan Wyatt filled in as his player host, White heads to College Park as an interior defensive line target, looking to fill the role currently played by Jordan Phillips. "Everybody was really nice to me, they were all lovely. I love the campus, love everything about it. They’ve got everything for me to live great, play great. I sat down with coach Locks twice. He’s a cool guy, very chill." White was named Capital Gazette 2023-24 Wrestler of the Year after winning the MIAA A heavyweight title, though the Terps' newest commit heads to Maryland as a football-only pledge. As a junior, White posted 57 tackles, 6.5 sacks and eight quarterback hits for the Cavaliers after being named to the Baltimore Sun's All-Metro first team. Maryland now has five commitments along the defensive line as Delmar White joins Central Catholic (PA) DT Braheem Battles, Avon Old Farms (CT) DE Dante Recker, Riverdale Baptist (MD) DT Nahsir Taylor and Chaminade-Madonna (FL) DT Donta Simpson. Maryland's 2025 class now rises to 17 commitments and a consensus top-40 class with several more targets expected to announce in the coming weeks.
