Archbishop Spalding (MD) three-star Jayden Shipps made his long-awaited official visit to Maryland beginning Thursday with his parents and grandma alongside him as the 6-foot-1, 180-pound cornerback reconnected with a pair of familiar faces. “I was with Lloyd Irvin and Kellan Wyatt a bunch,” Shipps told IBG. “It was good seeing him, I hadn't seen him in a little minute too. We caught up on how things are up there, how it's like then we got to chill and go bowling, Top Golf. Spent a lot of time with all of them.” With a small crew of visitors on campus, Shipps took note of the extensive opportunities he got to reconnect with the players and coaching staff through the weekend as co-defensive coordinators Aazaar Abdul-Rahim and Brian Williams led the way. “It was amazing. All genuine guys up there. I love everything. The people, the coaches. Everything. They're good people and I knew some of the freshmen, I grew up with them kind of so it was really cool.” While Shipps is no stranger to either campus or facilities, the official visit also gave him a chance to sit down with the defensive staff to watch film where he got a chance to see how he fits into the cornerback room now led by Abdul-Rahim. The familiarity with the Terps' scheme is another box check for the Terps as Shipps evaluates his transition to the Power Four level. “We also run Maryland's defense basically. Our school, we take a page from the Maryland book and play Maryland defense, so I'm already accustomed to how they play and their playbook. It's a couple of things that I can knock off that's pretty hard in college, which is the playbook, getting used to it and knowing the campus.” While Shipps noted his highlight was the time spent with the players, he left his official visit knowing Maryland could be the spot for him. “I grew up with Maryland and always being around the campus, knew the staff, players,” he added. As for what happens next and when, Shipps added that still remains undecided. “I haven't decided yet. I'm kind of between both right now,” he told IBG. “I'll probably make a decision within these next two weeks or so.” With Maryland well-positioned with the in-state target coming out of the weekend, Shipps is set to officially visit NC State next weekend with both Wisconsin and Indiana also involved in June. Jayden Shipps is rated a three-star prospect and an 87 overall by On3, checking in as the 22nd-best prospect in Maryland.
