The 2025 TBT officially kicks off on Friday, July 18 where Shell Shock TBT, Maryland men’s basketball’s official team, will kick off their run in an attempt to take home the $1 million prize.
Led by national champion Juan Dixon as head coach, Shell Shock TBT will have plenty of Maryland flavor on the coaching staff with Byron Mouton, Joe Smith and Andre Collins all serving as assistant coaches along the coaching staff. Travis Garrison and Sean Mosley also joined as general managers, Dave Neal serves as president of alumni coalition while former assistant Nima Omidvar spearheaded efforts to grow Maryland’s presence in The Basketball Tournament.
“Most importantly, it’s about building this brotherhood up, this coalition, so that we’re all working toward a common goal, and that’s helping Maryland basketball achieve another national title,” Dixon told GCR earlier this month. “That’s what this is all about. It’s simply about helping Maryland basketball elevate to a top-10 program consistently year in and year out. And hopefully we can help coach Buzz [Williams] and his team win a national championship in the near future.”
Maryland, a two-seed, will take on Love Virginia at 6 PM today at James Madison University in game one of the single elimination tournament. The winner moves onto Sunday to face winner between Red Rose Thunder vs. Magic Show, who kicks off the tournament at 1 PM on Friday.
