SFA RB DeJuan Williams names top school, sets official visit

St. Frances’ scrimmage on Thursday afternoon marked the end of the Panthers’ spring season as they put the early touches on a national championship run set to begin this fall. With coaches from Oregon, Cincinnati and Texas A&M among others in attendance for Thursday’s scrimmage, four-star running back DeJuan Williams was able to show glimpses of his elusiveness as he gets ready for his senior season as the main tailback. “It felt like it was good. We’ll get better as the season goes on but we’re confident,” Williams told IBG. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound running back is also preparing for a busy June, but for now, he has just one official visit set. “I’m going to Maryland the weekend of June 23,” Williams told IBG. The composite four-star running back also confirmed that Maryland is his top school heading into visits and a big reason is his lead recruiter. “Coach Lance texts me almost every day, making sure me and my parents are good. That’s the reason. If I go there, I can be top five, freshman All-American.” Running backs coach Latrell Scott also stopped through St. Frances on Wednesday as the two sides continue to build a rapport, and while Maryland has the support of Williams’ mom, the Terps have competition. “I’m trying to visit Virginia Tech, Stanford, Syracuse, Illinois,” he added. With an assistant in attendance and potentially two teammates headed their way, Oregon remains a factor as well. “Coach Locklyn hits me up with some drills. They make sure I’m good.” Former Maryland assistant Elijah Brooks has kept his recruiting efforts that began in College Park very much alive down in Blacksburg as the Hokies continue to hit the DMV. “Coach Brooks, he’s been hitting me up a lot. I feel like he really wants me bad.” DeJuan Williams will also look to make his commitment this summer, though no set plans. Williams is rated a three-star prospect and an 89 overall by On3, sitting as the 12th-best prospect in Maryland. Related Links
