Maryland is in the market for another cornerback and uncovered a new high school target in 2023 West Orange (FL) Jordan Castell after offering the 6-foot-2, 195-pound prospect last month. Inside linebacker coach Brawley Evans extended the offer as the Florida corner has seen his recruitment expand through the fall season as Louisville, Virginia Tech, Iowa State, Boston College, and Rutgers are some of the schools to jump into the mix. Castell has an idea why his recruitment has taken form.
“I was always told that my time was coming, but I was never too big on it. I just love the game of football so putting in the work was never too much for me. Just getting the team ready because I used to kind of stay to myself but now I’m speaking out to get the team right,” Castell told Inside the Black and Gold. “My confidence, the way I take the field now, how I check my stance and go hard every play.”
As for his recruitment, Castell is keeping his focus on the season and will bask in visits in late November and December. Kentucky, Boston College, Rutgers, Florida State have been most consistent with Castell but Evans has been able to establish an early relationship.
“We’ve talked and I like how he talks to me. He doesn’t give me all the good stuff, he tells me the things I need to work on and I can tell he really wants me up there and I like that a lot.” Head coach Mike Locksley has also gotten on the phone with the Florida cornerback, an area that the Terps have dipped into frequently through the years. “[Locksley] was telling me how he loves Florida [defensive backs]. He can tell in my film that I’m aggressive and I love the game.”
Boston College is a school that Castell is also taking a strong look at.
“I like how they were telling me how they’ve put a lot of [defensive backs] with my size in the league. And I really like the coaching staff.” The Seminoles are pushing for a visit when they host NC State the first weekend of November, but Castell does not have anything set.
