SEC verbal sets June official visit to Maryland

North Caroline (MD) fringe four-star Zymear Smith made the trip to Baltimore for Sunday’s Under Armour camp where the 6-foot, 170-pound athlete lined up at wide receiver. “I could’ve made a couple more catches, QBs could’ve hit me earlier but it’s all part of the game. Get back up,” Smith told IBG. While Smith has also drawn eyes as a potential asset on special teams at the next level, the bulk of his looks remain cornerback, including Alabama. Smith gave his verbal to the new Crimson Tide staff during his first trip to Tuscaloosa back in March and he’s set to return later this month. “It’s good man. I love the staff down at Bama. Just keeping it going. I’ve got my official coming up on the 31st,” Smith added. After getting a glimpse into practice and the facilities, diving into the day in the life of an Alabama DB is what he’s looking forward to on his return visit. “I just want to see what I’ll be doing every day, on a regular basis. When I get there, I want to see what I’m getting into.” While Alabama was able to get him into the fold early, his recruitment isn’t over as Pitt and Penn State are two more schools working to flip the Eastern Shore standout while Maryland is the only school with an official visit set in June. “I’m still in touch with schools. They’re not pressuring me to flip me yet but definitely still keeping a line.” Maryland is set to host him for an official visit the weekend of June 21, giving the staff another top target to work on with their top local targets on campus that weekend. “Me and Aazaar, we talk all the time so if I ever have a question I know I can hit him and talk to him and he’ll give me the realest answer that he can. That’s my guy. He was my second offer so we stay in touch every day.” Zymear Smith is rated a three-star prospect and an 89 overall by On3, checking in as the 12th-best prospect in Maryland.
