King George (VA) three-star Mekhai White is looking to take down Phoebus (VA) on Saturday with a trip to the state championship on the line. White is coming off a 145-yard and one touchdown performance in the 24-14 win vs. Varina, showcasing his catch radius and sure hands along the way. “I feel good. I feel like I’m making plays whenever we need to make plays. The team, we’re stepping up so I feel good about our team going to the state championship this weekend,” White told IBG. While keeping his focus on his senior season, his recruitment has remained a focus through the fall as the 6-foot-3 receiver made it to College Park for four games this season, most recently against Penn State and Michigan. “I love seeing my guys, just keep building relationships with them, seeing them compete against the best of the best,” White added. “It’s been the same. They haven’t really backed off of me. Still keeping the relationship going. We talk about everything so it hasn’t really changed there but I am listening to a few couple other schools.” Virginia remains at the forefront of the flip pursuit, but there are two more schools that White could take visits to once the season wraps up. “Arkansas, Virginia, maybe LSU.” Wide receiver coach Kenny Guiton made the trip to King George to watch White in action, while Virginia is expected in attendance for this weekend’s state semifinal matchup. LSU is the newest school showing interest. “I talk to them maybe twice a week, just keep building a relationship with them. trying to get down there soon.” As Maryland works to keep White in the fold, the top target has already used his official visit to Maryland. While he’s no stranger to Maryland, White could make his way back to campus with the staff looking to leverage basketball’s home games to host priority recruits. “Last time I was down there we were talking about coming up for a basketball game.” With other schools monitoring White with three weeks until signing day, where do the Terps stand compared to the flip suitors? “I’d say everyone is pretty even right now. I’m still evaluating everyone." White is rated a three-star prospect and an 88 overall by On3, sitting as the 13th-best prospect in Virginia. Related Links
