Samir Camacho becomes latest offensive line commitment for Maryland football

Maryland has landed its second commitment of the month as Cy Falls (TX) three-star offensive tackle Samir Camacho has gone public with his decision. Camacho, a 6-foot-4, 290-pound tackle, committed to Maryland over Duke, TCU and UTSA with Texas A&M and Kansas involved as the Texas lineman becomes the latest addition in the trenches. Camacho now becomes the seventh commitment for Maryland along the offensive line this cycle, announcing his decision roughly one month after telling the staff. “Coach Locks, he’s a great coach. He comes from Alabama, that’s one thing,” Camacho said about why Maryland won out. “They play an Alabama offense. Overall, him and the coaching staff, the team, the environment is pretty good. It’s just somewhere I lean to more.” Safeties coach Zac Spavital led the charge after extending an offer back in early May and the consistency helped Maryland secure an official visit. With Cal originally slated to host Camacho, the three-star lineman pivoted and made the trip to College Park where defensive tackle Jordan Phillips served as his host. “I felt at home. it was an outstanding visit, the hospitality,” Camacho told IBG. “It’s a family-based team. something that stood out to me was coach Locks, the staff and everybody there is building a championship team. I hope to be a part of it in the future and I haven’t decided on schools, but Maryland is definitely top one right now.” Kansas was involved earlier in the summer while TCU extended an offer following camp, but consecutive official visits to Duke and UTSA proved to be the biggest challenger. Instead, Camacho heads to College Park as the seventh lineman committed in Maryland’s 2024 class. Camacho will now shift gears as he’s in the midst of preseason with his senior year around the corner. “I’m trying to his 300, 305 then after the season go beast mode, like 310 until college. I’m good at 300, 295. It’s not fat and I still have the same speed. Still run five-flat in the forty, still run really well, still bend well.” Camacho is not yet rated by On3 but is rated a three-star and an 86 overall by 247Sports. As a junior, Camacho was named first-team offense All District. Related Links
