After getting a look at the NFL, former Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa could be on the verge of heading to Canada. Taulia Tagovailoa is reportedly close to a deal to sign with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, per Arash Madani and SportsNet.ca. Taulia is close to becoming the latest addition to the Tiger-Cats as they prepare for their final regular season game with Bo Levi Mitchell expected to start the season with Harrison Frost, Taylor Powell and Kevin Thompson, though Mitchell agreed to a reworked contract this offseason after dealing with multiple injuries during 2023, including a fractured leg. And after tossing ten interceptions to just six touchdowns while completing just 59% of his passes, Taulia could be inching closer toward a starting opportunity in the pros. The Tiger-Cats finished 8-10 and lost in the Eastern Semi-Final vs. the Montreal Alouettes, 27-12, with a pair of familiar names on the roster last season. Kai Locksley, the son of head coach Mike Locksley, rushed for 28 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 17 attempts while adding three catches for 98 yards and a touchdown. Former Maryland running back Tayon Fleet-Davis also drew a pair of carries in one appearance during the 2023 season. His near-move to the CFL comes after Taulia Tagovailoa went undrafted in the 2024 NFL Draft before being invited for a pair of rookie minicamps out west, first with the Seattle Seahawks then Arizona Cardinals. After four seasons in College Park, Tagovailoa ended his Maryland career as the Big Ten’s all-time passing leader (3,377) while completing 66.4% of his passes and rewriting the Terps' record book. He becomes the latest former Terp to find a new home after wide receiver Jeshaun Jones, safety Beau Brade, wide receiver Tyrese Chambers and offensive linemen Corey Bullock and Gottlieb Ayedze all signed as undrafted free agents.
