Recent visit leaves strong impression on the family of top-100 athlete

Archbishop Carroll (DC) four-star athlete Nyckoles Harbor made his second trip to Maryland over the weekend when he and teammate Joseph Mupoyi made it in for the Terps’ win over Howard. This weekend’s trip resonated a bit different for Harbor with his mother and girlfriend also basking in the pregame and postgame atmosphere before connecting with the Terps’ staff, a visit that’s elevated Maryland’s chances.

“It was a great experience. Me, my mom, and my friend [Joseph Mupoyi] went up there and my mom loved coach Locks and then coach [Elijah] Brooks was entertaining. My girl liked it too so we were all happy as a group, so we’re really considering Maryland now,” Harbor told Inside the Black and Gold. The unique combination of size and speed that Harbor possesses makes him a top target and just like his first trip to campus, Harbor was able to spend some one-on-one time with head coach Mike Locksley.

“That was my second conversation talking with coach Locks one-on-one so it was great, we’re moving forward with our relationship. I’ve got a really good relationship with him.” What made this weekend’s visit important was the impression left on Harbor’s mother. “Just getting up there to see how they liked it. Me and them is a whole different story because they’re going to be an impactful factor in where I go to school because they got to like it. Mom, sisters know the grades, dad knows the athletics so it’s two-part to one side and I go off what they say and what’s in my mind.”

Harbor has maintained a top four of Maryland, Michigan, Penn State, and South Carolina but the Terps have jumped on the leaderboard. “Relationship going good. I can’t really say too much, but Maryland and Penn State are my top two schools right now then I have Michigan and South Carolina. With that four, that’s kind of where I’m leaning.”

Harbor will head to Happy Valley with Mupoyi this weekend, marking the second trip to Happy Valley since visits resumed back in June. “Since we have a game Friday, me and my boy Joseph [Mupoyi] will be going to the Penn State game this Saturday. Mom and sister couldn’t come up this time so I’m going up with coach Rob [Harris].”

The top-100 athlete is still eyeing a trip to Ann Arbor, but no date has been set. “We’re going to try and get up to Michigan because that’s my mom’s hometown so my whole family is trying to see it so just go up, also for family matters too, so just catch a game while I’m up there.”

Harbor is planning to return to Maryland on November 6 when the Terps host the Nittany Lions.

Harbor is rated a four-star prospect and a 92 overall by 247Sports, sitting as the top player in D.C. and the nation's 94th-best prospect.
