Manchester (VA) four-star running back Ramon Brown has announced his commitment to Maryland, flipping his pledge from Virginia Tech. He announced his decision on Instagram.
The 5-foot-11, 202-pound tailback officially visited Maryland back on June 18, but made a quiet return visit to campus the weekend of December 3 with his brother RJ Brown. Maryland made it known to Brown he was a priority recruit heading into his initial decision.
“Coach [Elijah] Brooks is just telling me that I’m number one on their recruiting board as far as running backs. I’m the only one that came on any visit and he told me how bad he wants me,” he said. Wide receiver coach Zohn Burden has worked with Brooks to land the four-star talent and the Terps showcased his fit in the offense.
“I was chatting it up with coach Zohn, catching up and how I’d be used in the offense. Coach Zohn was really telling me how he’s trying to get more Virginia kids to get to this area because he’s from the 757 area.”
Brown announced his commitment to Maryland just minutes before Virginia wide receiver Leon Haughton announced his pledge. Maryland is now up to 15 commitments in the 2022 class.
The surprising decision gives the Terps their second four-star in the class, but now adds a much-needed freshman tailback to their backfield. Brown joins Roman Hemby, Antwain Littleton, Colby McDonald, and Challen Faamatau on the roster.
As a junior, Brown finished with 1,021 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns on 146 carries. He also finished with 241 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 12 catches.
Brown is rated a four-star prospect and a 90 overall by 247Sports, sitting as the tenth-best prospect in Virginia.
