Rakim Jarrett shines, two Terps lead teams in tackles in NFL preseason week two

Maryland will look to keep double-digit players on the eventual 53-man roster as several more former Terps made their cases over the weekend. We break it all down. Two former Terp defensive backs made their presence known during week two of the NFL preseason, while New York Giants first-round pick Deonte Banks continued his impression play from week one again not allowing a catch in the team’s 21-19 win over the Panthers as he with a pair of tackles. He looks like a lock to start as an outside corner with veteran Adoree' Jackson now moving into the slot. Colts safety Nick Cross had a big first series where he had a tackle for loss and kept Bears receiver Equanimeous St. Brown from making a third-down catch. He led the team with eight tackles in their 24-17 win. https://twitter.com/CodyTalksNFL/status/1693388632470499648 Cross’ teammate Jake Funk scored the go-ahead touchdown in the Colts' 24-17 win over Chicago, finishing with 18 yards on five carries. Linebacker Josh Woods, meanwhile, led the Cardinals with seven tackles including six solo in the 38-10 loss to Kansas City. Playing in his first preseason game, Rakim Jarrett made the most out of his snaps, with each of his three catches going for over 20 yards. This included connecting with Kyle Trask on a spectacular 36-yard grab in double coverage as his 84 yards on three catches were a game-high. After a showing through from camp through week two, Jarrett's chances of making the 53-man roster got another boost after Russell Gage was sidelined with a season-ending injury. https://twitter.com/Insideblackgold/status/1693090250438914545 Chad Ryland, meanwhile, scored his first point as an NFL kicker when he made his only extra point attempt before the Patriots-Packers game ended early in the fourth quarter after a scary injury to Pats safety Isaiah Bolden. A few Terps were up against each other when the Steelers took on the Bills. Both teams played their starters which allowed former Penn State corner to go against star receiver Stefon Diggs. Diggs was targeted five times, catching two of them for 22 yards. Texans defensive lineman Byron Cowart also added one tackle in the 28-3 loss against the Dolphins. After finding the endzone in week one, Steelers running back Anthony McFarland had a rough night, rushing for only two yards on nine carries. On one drive, he had three attempts to score from the one-yard line, but couldn’t get a push. Spencer Anderson was all over the line again for the Steelers, only not lining up a left tackle in his 31 snaps against the Bills. Unfortunately, he was called for illegal hands to the face that wiped away a first down. Second-year tight end Chig Okonkwo finished with one catch for 19 yards on three targets, while defensive lineman Sam Okuayinonu recorded one tackle. Jacob Copeland, meanwhile, didn't record a catch in Minnesota's 24-16 loss to Tennessee. Raiders cornerback Jakorian Bennett also wasn't in action after head coach Josh McDaniels said the rookie got the night off to rest after dealing with the bumps and bruises from camp. Wide receiver Dontay Demus and the Baltimore Ravens wrap up week two on Monday night. Related Links
