QB Cam Edge reclassifies, commits to Maryland

Smyrna (DE) four-star quarterback Cam Edge has announced his commitment to Maryland.

Edge, a consensus four-star quarterback, took an official visit to Maryland during the weekend of January 22 and the 6-foot-1, 190-pound prospect will reclassify from the 2023 to 2022 class. The decision to reclassify was initiated by Edge and after fulfilling his academic requirement, sources told Inside the Black and Gold that the decision to reclassify was approved back on January 19 by the school. Edge was back on campus on Sunday for Maryland’s basketball game against Indiana.

Edge’s commitment fills the much-needed role as Maryland’s second scholarship quarterback in the 2022 class as he will now enroll in June alongside Wise (MD) three-star Jayden Sauray. Maryland had long been involved with Edge as the Terps were among the first offers to the former DeMatha quarterback, an understandable connection given Edge played at DeMatha (MD) under then-head coach and current Maryland assistant Elijah Brooks. Director of recruiting operations Scott Chadwick helped pave the way for Edge to reclassify, while the familiarity between Brooks and Edge cultivated a strong connection to College Park.

Edge also took note of Maryland’s offensive coordinator Dan Enos during his time with the staff. “He seems like a cool guy. I know he knows a lot of football and seen some really talented guys,” he said over the summer. While Edge’s commitment stabilizes the future at quarterback for the Terps, his commitment also helps give Maryland ample local flavor at an influential position. Edge becomes the latest quarterback in the room with several local connections, given his experience at DeMatha. Edge joins former Wise (MD) quarterback Jayden Sauray, former St. Frances (MD) quarterback John Griffith, former DeMatha (MD) quarterback Eric Najarian, and former South River (MD) quarterback David Foust.

His commitment and signing comes on the same day that Maryland elevated Mike Miller to co-offensive coordinator and Gunter Brewer as wide receiver coach and pass game coordinator, finalizing the 2022 offensive staff.

As a junior, Edge finished with 2,990 passing yards and 27 touchdowns to just two interceptions on 183-of-273 passing.

Edge is rated a consensus four-star prospect by On3 and an 89.42 overall, sitting as Delaware’s top prospect. Edge is now the 22nd member in Maryland’s 2022 class.
