After a busy month of visits for Montgomery Bell (TN) offensive tackle Grayson Morgan, the three-star prospect has started to narrow things down and now holds a top group.
“I’ve narrowed it down to Maryland, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and Kentucky, not in a specific order. I’ve narrowed down to them with Air Force and Kansas State a bit,” Morgan told Inside the Black & Gold. “Visits helped to really just able to see truly who people were, which was really what I needed to do. People can sell you over the phone but it depends on how they are truly in person.” Morgan took in a pair of official visits to both Maryland and Kentucky and unofficially visited Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, Auburn.
Morgan breaks down what sticks out about his top four schools.
Kentucky: “Really their development. You can see from coach [Eric] Wolford coming in and he’s put over 40 guys into the league, somewhere around there. And their development in the weight room and on the field with the big blue wall is all very special to be a part of.”
Maryland: “The culture that they’ve built has been together and everybody chipping in, everybody busting their tails. That new facility is going to help exceed and make people feel warm, but the culture that they’ve built there is everything.”
Mississippi State: “Really the culture. Really got a home feeling there. I got that at Maryland but really got that at Mississippi State with them being south and being so close, or closer to Maryland. Really just the home feeling I got there.”
Vanderbilt: “Really the connections I have there with the head coach, he went to my high school and Barton Simmons went to my high school so we have a very good connection, very strong connection there where I know if I went there, I wouldn’t fail because they went to my high school. They’d invest in me.”
With three official visits available to Morgan, he knows of two schools that could be in line to receive visits down the line. “Definitely to Vanderbilt, maybe to Mississippi State. I know coach [Mason] Miller was saying their spots are going to fill up quickly so if they have another spot open, I’ll take another official.”
Maryland has stayed consistent with Morgan since the early spring as the 6-foot-6, 270-pound tackle added he and offensive line coach Brian Braswell “stay in good connection, talking about once a week.” The biggest obstacle in Maryland’s chances could be proximity to home, though that’s not a concern at the forefront of Morgan’s evaluation at this time.
“A little bit. I haven’t figured that out but definitely with Maryland, I’ll have to figure that out because if something happens I’ll need to figure out how to get back. But really that’s the last concern, I’m more concerned with where I can get developed.”
Morgan is rated a three-star prospect and an 86 overall by 247Sports, sitting as the nation’s 75th-best offensive tackle.
