Priority four-star target returns to Maryland for Charlotte game

Maryland hosted a loaded group of local visitors on Saturday night and St. John’s (DC) four-star cornerback Tariq Hayer was among the targets to return to campus. Hayer arrived shortly before kickoff where he was able to connect with a pair of coaches. “I talked to coach Baker for a bit and I was with Quincy Kahlert. Just talking, nothing crazy but it was good to see them.” Getting a chance to reconnect face-to-face gave the priority DC target a chance to build on some of his strongest relationships in College Park. Defensive coordinator Brian Williams is leading the way with the 5-foot-11 target. “He just sees how things go on in life, checking up on me to make sure I’m good. It’s a good relationship between us,” Hayer said of Brian Williams. “Maryland just treats people from the DMV differently.” The star St. John’s (DC) cornerback made his way to campus twice in late July, first on a brief tour with his Cadet teammates only to return days later with his parents for the invite-only BBQ on July 29. Hayer’s visit on Saturday didn’t give him a different perspective on the program just yet, but he stayed until the Terps bounced back. “In the beginning, I was a little scared, but they picked it up,” Hayer told IBG. “Once the weather cleared up, it felt good out there so I was glad about that.” Hayer left after Maryland took a 17-14 lead into the fourth quarter. Hayer is set to return to Penn State on September 23 when they host Iowa, along with a set visit to Wisconsin on October 28 when they host Ohio State. Hayer is rated a four-star prospect and a 91 overall by On3, sitting as the second-best player in DC.
