Maryland (1-0) at Loyola (0-0) When: Saturday, February 11th, 1pm Where: Ridley Athletic Complex, Baltimore, Maryland TV: ESPN+ Spread: Maryland -8.5 After the Terps easily handled business in the first week of gameplay in the college lacrosse season against Richmond, the Terps will now head to Baltimore to take on the Loyola Greyhounds. In their matchup last season, the Terps won handily 20-8 at home. In their matchup last season, the Greyhounds were a fairly young squad and did not have many returners. This season the Greyhounds will be having a much more experienced roster, however. Two players to watch out for on Loyola's offense are Adam Poitras and Joey Kamish. Poitras is a senior midfielder that is the Greyhounds' top returning scoring threat after he tallied 29 goals and 9 assists in 2022. Kamish is the Greyhounds' top returning attackman from last season. Last season Kamish scored 19 goals and dished out 9 assists as well. The Greyhounds are a team that will want to control the tempo and keep the ball out of their opponent's hands. Expect the Greyhounds to have long and controlled possessions to try and wear the Terps' stout defense out. On defense for the Greyhounds, look out for Payton Rezanka and Matt Hughes. Both are returning graduate students that are returning starters from their team last season. Rezanka is a short stick defensive midfielder (SSDM) that lead the team in caused turnovers with 26 last season which is very good for a SSDM. Rezanka is a preseason First Team All-American for inside lacrosse and is a leader of the Greyhound defense. Hughes is the top returning long pole defender for the Greyhounds. Last season, Hughes finished with 20 caused turnovers and picked up 29 grounds balls. Look for Loyola to use their experience to their advantage on defense and throw lots of different looks against the Terps high powered offense to slow them down a bit. Last week, the Terps were led by Daniel Maltz and Owen Murphy on offense while the Terps' defense played a stout game where they only gave up three goals before the backups came in. Look for the Terps to once again get out in transition from caused turnovers and face-off wins like they did so well last week. Brett Makar and Ajax Zappitello are two players to watch for the Terps on defense. Expect Loyola to stay away from those two as much as possible. On offense, you might expect the ball to be moved around a lot more than last week. The Terps won their matchups easily which led to a lot of isolation opportunities. But against a more experienced and talented defense, the Terps will need to pass it around more if they want to win. Look out for Maltz and Murphy to have great games once again. The Terps will be looking to start 2-0 for the seventh straight season and move to 23-2 overall against Loyola.
