#9 Maryland 1-1 vs #18 Syracuse 3-0 When: Saturday, February 18th at 1PM Where: SECU Stadium TV: BTN+ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EGg6bP3HtA8 After a shocking loss to in-state rival Loyola Greyhounds last weekend, the Terps will look to bounce back against Syracuse at home. The Orange are coming off a two-win weekend where they won by a combined 35-13 over Albany and Holy Cross. Last season the Terps beat the Orange up in the Carrier Dome 14-10 but that was against a Syracuse team that's roster has completely changed. Scouting the Orange, Syracuse relies heavily on their underclassmen for offense, starting with freshman Joey Spallina and sophomore Owen Hiltz. Spallina leads the team with 11 goals and 13 points overall while Hiltz is second on the team in assists and second in points overall. Spallina was the top-ranked player in the 2022 class and has shown why they chose him to don the famous #22 jersey, similar in magnitude to the Terps' number one jersey. Hiltz and Spallina love playing the two-man game and if the Terps can even slow down one of them they should have a good chance at getting back on track and protecting the home turf. On defense for the Orange, look out for junior Saam Olexo and sophomore Nick Caccamo. Olexo is the Orange's long stick midfielder (LSM) and is first on the team in caused turnovers and second on the team in ground balls picked up. Olexo will look to get in transition off of caused turnovers and quick clears to help cause the Terps to slide and be out of position on defense. Caccamo is the Orange's top close defender and is second on the team in caused turnovers. Look for the Terps to try and use his aggressiveness against him and cause him to overplay passes and dodges. Last week the Terps coughed the ball up 20 times leading to their lackluster performance on the offensive end. If they want to turn things around they will need to be better at keeping the ball in their sticks and doing the simple fundamental things. Luke Weirman had another dominant day from the face-off and will look to do more of the same. The biggest difference from last week to this week will be who is starting in net for the Terps. News emerged earlier this week that goalie Logan McNaney tore his ACL and would be sidelined for the remainder of the season, but that may not be the case as head coach John Tillman awaits further results. "If Logan can't go, we've got confidence in our next guy, and we'll make sure that they're ready," Tillman added. If there is a change, Maryland will turn to Binghamton grad transfer Teddy Dolan After becoming a first-year starter in 2020, Dolan was named the America East Defensive Player of the Year after registering a career-best 189 saves last season. This season, Dolan has allowed one goal against three saves in slightly under 12 minutes of action. With the second win of the season at stake, Maryland will look to avoid their first losing record since the 2016 season.
