The cornerback room for Maryland football will look much different in 2025 compared to 2024 after making the unit an immediate priority in the transfer portal. That attention materialized into near-immediate success after Dontay Joyner and Jamare Glasker announced their transfers into the program, giving the unit much-needed experience. While Joyner dazzled in his two games against Power Four competition in 2024, Glasker’s transfer marked a chance to return home after leaving Wake Forest following the coaching change.
While Joyner has drawn buzz as one of the most athletic players on defense and arguably the team, Glasker was named Maryland’s most important transfer to watch in 2025 by The Athletic.
The Terrapins had five players drafted off last season’s underachieving 4-8 squad and then lost nine full-time starters to the transfer portal. Experience is lacking all over the field, but especially on defense. Glasker is one of only two defensive players with double-digit starts in his college career.
Glasker became a coveted target after departing Wake Forest in December with scheduled visits to Ole Miss, Florida and Michigan. But one day after hitting the portal, Glasker made his way to College Park for what proved to be his first and only official visit during the portal process.
“I had a meeting with coach Locks at the end and coach Aazaar. Everything was smooth, man. I’m just back home,” he told IBG after his transfer. “Me and Aazaar know people we’re familiar with, coach Locksley also, so it’s just crazy how I ended up back home. My story, how I came up is crazy and coach Aazaar had the same story. Coach Locks did too. I feel like we’re going to get it rolling well.”
Glasker arrived at Maryland back in January where he’s expected to start alongside Joyner in 2025, marking the first of two years of eligibility remaining for the Temple Hills, MD native. He started in nine games and appeared in 18 games during his two seasons at Wake Forest, finishing 2024 with 37 tackles, four pass breakups and an interception as he became a full-time starter.
