Former Detroit guard Antoine Davis is on campus today on the first of several visits this month. Davis is also expected to stop at Georgetown, Kansas State, BYU and Cincinnati, but it’s Maryland who will have the first crack at the prized scoring guard.

Davis finished third in the country last season after averaging 23.9 points per game on 42.9% shooting from the floor and has averaged at least four assists per game since the 2019-20 season. Davis, the son of former Indiana and current Detroit head coach Mike Davis, entered the portal six days ago and immediately had a host of schools in touch including Kentucky, Alabama, Kansas, Ohio State and Purdue among others. He’d fill a critical need in Maryland’s backcourt and fill a need as a go-to scorer. Davis had six games last season where he scored 30 or more points, including two games where he dropped 39, while he’s shot at least 37% from three over the last two seasons.

While Willard and assistant Tony Skinn work on solidifying the backcourt, Maryland made the final five foranother guard after former Pitt forward Femi Odukale forward released a top five including Maryland, Rhode Island, Seton Hall, UConn and Oregon. The 6-foot-5 sophomore entered the transfer portal back on April 1 after averaging 10.8 points on 39.1% shooting from the field last season. The Brooklyn native played in 53 games over the last two seasons and started in 28 games this season.

Maryland also made the ‘cut’ for a new frontcourt target on Tuesday. Washington State forward Efe Abogidi told Jon Rothstein that Maryland is among the 35 schools under consideration, joining Texas, Washington, Gonzaga, Virginia Tech, Houston, Oregon, Kansas State, Kentucky, Iowa State, West Virginia and LSU among others. It’s undoubtedly a long list for the heralded sophomore forward, but the Terps have a potential Nigerian connection between Abogidi and Skinn working in their corner. Abogidi appeared in 64 games through his first two seasons and averaged 8.1 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks while shooting 51% from the field last season.
