Portal cornerback transferring to Maryland football in 2026

Maryland football has added to the secondary.

Former West Virginia cornerback Jordan Scruggs has transferred to Maryland, adding additional experience in the secondary.

Scruggs, a 5-foot-11, 166-pound cornerback, arrives in College Park with one year of eligibility remaining. His arrival was made possible after Maryland dismissed rising senior cornerback Dontay Joyner due to his offseason arrest, making Scruggs an experienced piece in the secondary.

The senior registered 33 tackles, including 22 solo, in 2025 after playing in all 12 games at West Virginia and nearly 500 snaps on defense. Scruggs began his college career at Washburn where he redshirted then spent time at Central Missouri in 2022 and South Alabama in 2024. His 2024 season ended with 69 tackles and an interception, setting the stage for his transfer to Power Four football in 2025. Scruggs also spent the 2023 season at Hutchinson Community College, the same junior college that produced former cornerback Jakorian Bennett and linebacker Gereme Spraggins.

Scruggs is expected to arrive in College Park adding additional experience to a room that returns a pair of NFL-caliber prospects in Jamare Glasker and Amari Jackson, alongside several freshmen like Zahir Cobb and Darrell Carey who join Ricardo Cooper and Judah Jenkins in the rotation.
