Maryland football a packed section filled with recruits, families and coaches with several priority recruits filing into The Shell to watch the Terps take down Indiana, 44-17.
That included a pair of committed targets, who’ve made their way to campus previously this year including one visitor for his second consecutive home game. Archbishop Spalding (MD) wide receiver RJ Newton made his way onto campus for the Virginia game, and was back along the sidelines on Saturday as he and several teammates walked out of the tunnel onto the field.
“Keyshawn , Keion was all there, Malik was there so it was a good time,” Newton told told IBG. “We got to talk to coach Locks and the OC . From my end, we also talked with coach Williams. I met yesterday on the field. He came over and shook my hand.”
Newton and his teammates also got a chance to sit down with head coach Mike Locksley and offensive coordinator Josh Gattis as both have been active in the Spalding pursuit through the fall.
“Basically just telling us how the program is coming up, how they’ve been building out and how they’re playing for the future.”
While Newton remains committed to Holy Cross, he’s kept an open door with Maryland as the two sides have talked about how he fits into the offense. “With my frame and being a bigger outside guy. We’ve talked about that a decent amount. Just taking everything in, seeing what it’s like, what the atmospheres like. I want to keep seeing if it’s for me.”
As for Chester (PA) athlete and UConn verbal Dominic Toy, Saturday marked his first visit on campus as an offered recruit as he and a few teammates made their way onto campus.
“Definitely liked how the quarterback got the ball out quick, moved the ball around. The offense was moving really nice all day,” Toy told IBG. “It was a good time, great football, great weather. I loved it up there.” While listed and in contact with Maryland as an offensive target, the 6-foot-5, 217-pound target is also a prime defensive line target as the trenches remain a focus this cycle, coupled with ample confidence in a young, loaded tight end room.
While Toy doesn’t have a return visit set, Newton expects to return to campus for both the Michigan and Penn State games.
Newton is not yet rated by On3, while Toy is rated a three-star and an 86 overall by On3, sitting as the 42nd-best prospect in Pennsylvania.
