Former Maryland quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa’s stint overseas has officially ended.
Less than one month after signing with the Hamburg Sea Devils, the team announced they’ve parted ways with Tagovailoa, citing “family reasons” as Taulia now heads back stateside. In two games with the team, splitting those appearances with a 1-1 record, Tagovailoa completed 43% of his passes while throwing for 315 yards, three touchdowns and a pair of interceptions. He also added 46 rushing yards on ten carries.
Tagovailoa signed with the team after Micah Leon was lost with a season-ending injury in the season-opening loss to Madrid. Tagovailoa’s departure comes as Leon is expected to return to practice and rejoin the team next week.
“We’re grateful for the time he spent with the team. Wishing you nothing but the best for your next chapter,” the team added.
This marks the second professional stint for Tagovailoa after initially landing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the Canadian Football League, recording one rushing touchdown in 2024 before heading to Europe shortly after being waived.
As for what's next remains to be seen as Tagovailoa hoped to become the program's first quarterback drafted since Scott Zolak in 1991. Tagovailoa ended his time in College Park ranked atop the record books in career and single season passing yards and career total offense among eight other categories.
