One four-star sets official visit, another four-star includes Maryland basketball in top group

Head coach Buzz Williams has one commit already in the fold in sharpshooter Austin Brown and with several more targets expected to officially visit Maryland through the fall while others unofficially visited during the summer, Maryland men’s basketball saw traction on their point guard wishlist on Wednesday night.

Wasatch Academy (UT) four-star Junior County will officially visit Maryland the weekend of September 19, one of four official visits set. County will also visit Indiana beginning September 5, Arizona beginning September 12 and UConn beginning September 26. Purdue is the lone school inside the top five with no official visit set for the top-50 prospect, though County previously took an official visit to the Boilermakers back on November 15 before visiting College Station two months later.

Maryland has cemented itself among the group of top contenders while County, a 6-foot-5 guard, previously took an official visit to Texas A&M with his relationship with the staff a driving force. “Coach Lyle Wolf went with Buzz [Williams] over to Maryland. I was in contact with him a lot and my official visit there was also amazing. Me and my family got to talk to coach Buzz, and he’s just a great person and a great coach to talk to. [He told me] just to keep working and keep doing me because all of the work I put in it will show itself when the time comes,” County said earlier this summer.

County cemented himself as one of the top guards in his class while he averaged 10.4 points,2.8 rebounds and 2.8 assists on 64.3% shooting at the NBPA Top 100 Camp back in June.

Meanwhile, Maryland also made the cut for another point guard target with plans to officially visit after IMG Academy (FL) four-star Trey Beamer trimmed down to a final five. Beamer, a 6-foot-1 is down to Boston College, Maryland, Mississippi State, USF and Virginia Tech. Beamer will also officially visit Boston College on September 20 before heading to Mississippi State on October 2, but it’ll be Maryland up first with an official visit set for the weekend of September 12.

Beamer averaged 20.1 points and 3.2 assists in 11 games with Team United on the EYBL circuit before picking up an offer from Maryland mid-summer, hours before finalizing his official visit to Maryland. “My scoring is definitely my best trait, being able to put the ball in the basket at any point in time,” Beamer told ZAGSBLOG earlier this summer.
