Maryland is working on an extensive visitor list for this weekend, but Oakdale (MD) duo Dominic Nichols and Evan Austin have longed penciled in this weekend as their return trips to College Park. Is that still the plan? “We’re both going to come down,” Austin told Inside the Black and Gold. Nichols, a four-star defensive end checking in at 6-foot-5, is among the nation’s top prospects and checks in as the third-best prospect in Maryland in the early 2024 On3 rankings. Tight ends coach Mike Miller is leading his recruitment as receiver coach Gunter Brewer chips in, but Maryland has ground to make up with Penn State surging early and consistently in his recruitment. While Maryland will hope to alter the trajectory in Nichols’s recruitment ahead of what hopes to be an entertaining game on Saturday afternoon, the Terps are well-positioned early for his teammate Evan Austin. https://twitter.com/evanaustin_/status/1566537650315698177 Austin, a 6-foot receiver, was on campus with Nichols for the barbeque back on July 30 and has an older brother who currently attends the University of Maryland. He’s been able to build on his relationship with coach Brewer and got a chance to see a different side of things. “I got a chance to talk to everyone. Coach Brewer, coach Miller and their families so that was really good. They got in the water with us too so that was fun,” Austin said at the time. Since September 1, Brewer has spearheaded to charge when it comes to contact. “Definitely coach Brewer and coach Miller,” Austin added over the weekend. “I talk to coach Brewer on a daily basis, we keep in touch a lot. I call him both, too. I was just talking to coach Brewer last night on the phone so I’m talking with them frequently,” Pitt, Virginia Tech, Boston College and Maryland are among the early schools that have offered while West Virginia, Duke and Coastal Carolina have been in contact since. Nichols is rated a four-star prospect and a 91 overall by On3, sitting as the third-best prospect in Maryland. Austin is not yet rated.
