Maryland’s 1-0 win vs. 14th-ranked Washington not only extended its unbeaten streak to 14 games, but also moved Maryland closer to securing the conference title in a battle between the Big Ten’s top two teams.
The win also moved Maryland to number one nationally, the first time the program has earned the top spot since the first week of the 2019 season. The Terps stand at 11-0-3 overall and 7-0-2 in the Big Ten heading into Friday’s regular season finale.
A pair of Terps also drew conference honors as senior Albi Ndrenika was named Offensive Player of the Week and senior Lasse Kelp as Defensive Player of the Week. Ndrenika scored the only goal in the second half against Washington that secured Maryland’s win. On the defensive side, Lasse held the Huskies to two shots on goal.
"With the talent that we have and being at home, we all have a belief that we’re going to find a way to win. We know that if we don't let them score, we're eventually going to get one," Ndrenika said.
Maryland looks to close the regular season out against Michigan State Friday at 8 p.m., and with either a win or draw, the Terps will win its fourth Big Ten regular season championship under head coach Sasho Cirovski and host the Big Ten Tournament as the top overall seed.
Women’s soccer
The season has come to an end for Maryland women’s soccer, posting a 6-11-1 (2-8-1) overall record in 2025, including a winless record outside of College Park in Michael Marchiano’s first full season as head coach. The Big Ten has announced its 2025 women’s soccer postseason awards as junior Symone Jenson was named the team’s honoree for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
Volleyball
Maryland volleyball 8-14 (1-11 Big Ten) extended its losing streak to five after falling to 24th-ranked Indiana 0-3 and Northwestern 1-3.
The Terps won the third set against Northwestern 25-23, but the Wildcats sealed the game in the fourth set.
Maryland returns home to face Ohio State Saturday at 1 p.m.
Field Hockey
A perfect way to end the regular season for 11th-ranked Maryland field hockey, the Terps secured a 4-0 win against Northeastern before heading into the Big Ten Tournament.
Within the first five minutes, junior Maddie Vasilios scored the first goal of the game, and the Terps stacked on three more by the end of the fourth quarter.
"Couldn't be happier with the result. We had a couple back-post goals, which is something we've been working really hard on," head coach Missy Meharg said.
Junior Alyssa Klebasko received Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week. Against Northeastern, Klebasko recorded her sixth shutout of the season, the second most by a Big Ten goalkeeper.
Maryland finished the season 10-7 overall and 5-3 in the Big Ten as the No.2 seed and opens the Big Ten Tournament against No.7 seed Ohio State on Thursday at 2 p.m.
