Non-rev report: Maryland athletics kicks off 2025 season

While the first revenue sport of 2025-26 has kicked off for Maryland Athletics, we take a look at how the non-revenue teams have fared through the first weeks of the regular season.

Men’s Soccer

Maryland men’s soccer has had a lightning start to its season and heads into the weekend undefeated. The Terps won their first game on the road against Georgetown, and sophomore Laurin Mack received Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week after recording a career-high six saves on 18 shots. "That was a team effort. I feel like I made some great saves. I'm just trying my best to keep the ball out of the net and today (I had more) chances to do it (than) other games. I did my job pretty well, I'd say," Mack said after the win.

Maryland and Bucknell tied 2-2 in the Terps’ second matchup of the season, and Maryland held Saint Francis and Pacific scoreless. Freshman Rocket Ritarita received Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after recording his first career goal and adding a pair of assists in just 28 minutes against Pacific. The Terps will head to Wisconsin to start Big Ten Conference play against the Badgers on Friday.

Women’s Soccer

The season was off to a strong start for Maryland women’s soccer; the Terps had a three-game win streak at home against Lehigh, Saint Francis and UMBC. Maryland held all three teams scoreless and scored nine goals in total, but their first road matchup against Old Dominion broke the streak. They bounced back against Navy but have since lost to Florida and James Madison. Big Ten Conference play for the Terps starts Thursday night against the Nittany Lions on the road.

Volleyball

Maryland volleyball opened the season on a rocky stretch, losing its first two nonconference games against Coastal Carolina and North Carolina, but the Terps have turned it around. They are currently on a three-game win streak with wins over Old Dominion, William and Mary and UMBC. Sophomore Duru Gökçen played a key role in these victories, totaling 20 kills and 20 blocks. Gökçen received Big Ten Defensive Player of the week honors, the first time a Terp has earned the award since 2022. Maryland swept Delaware State in its home opener on Wednesday night and will hit the road again to face Davidson at 3 PM on Saturday.

Field Hockey

Fifth-ranked Maryland field hockey opened the season with the Conference Cup, defeating Stanford and Villanova. Freshman Jordyn Hollamon was one of the leading scorers with five points in the Conference Cup and was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

The Terps also played in the Big Ten / ACC Challenge, where they faced ranked opponents No.8 Boston College and No. 5 Duke, losing both games. While the Eagles secured a 2-0 win over the Terps, Duke scored with nearly five minutes left to take a 2-1 game in Durham. Tenth-ranked Maryland will host the Terrapin Invitational on Friday, playing against Pennsylvania and Saint Joseph’s.
