Irvington (NJ) wide receiver Nasir Addison added his offer from Maryland back on January 7 after cornerbacks coach and area recruiter Henry Baker connected with the 6-foot-3, 190-pound athlete. But it wasn’t until last month when Addison made the trip down to College Park with teammate and four-star athlete Adon Shuler, impressing both prospects as Addison revealed what stuck out.
“Maryland was fun. I’m excited to go back,” Addison told Inside the Black and Gold. “I got to hang out with coach Locks, the receiver coach, coach [Henry] Baker, most of the staff. We just got to hang out and get to know each other, build a bond, and starting building the relationship.” The visit gave Addison a chance to draw his own conclusions about the staff, quickly realizing the level of comfort with the Terps in the early stages of his recruitment. “I know they all have my best interest. They all care about me and they actually push to deepen the relationship, get to know each other better.”
Maryland is recruiting Addison as a wide receiver, creating a role that Addison knows he fits into. “Their offense is like the offense I run now. It’s a lot of screen plays and let the guys get into open space, try and let the athletes just run free.” Though the unrated prospect is slated to start this fall, Addison is working on his own game in order to take the next step as a receiver. “Every route that I run isn’t based on speed so I’m just trying to get more fluid in how I maneuver in my routes.”
But the length that Addison’s game possesses makes him an early target on the Terps’ 2023 recruiting board as Maryland looks to dip back into New Jersey once more. The relationship between Addison and Baker continues to grow with each conversation. “It’s getting to the point where we’re comfortable. It’s a little early but we’re getting there.” The next time Addison steps foot onto campus, he’ll ask about the academic side of things.
“I was with the athletic program but now I want to learn about the educational part. I want to learn about the marine biology program, the chemistry program. That’s what I want to get into when I go to college so just learn more about it.”
In addition to Maryland, Addison also took trips to Boston College and Rutgers as he explains what he’s looking for in a school.
“In my recruiting process, I’m looking for the school I have the best relationship with and a good educational program.”
