Mike Locksley on whether he viewed UCLA as his last game, answering tough questions

Maryland football is looking to avoid having the 2026 season spiral out of control like the last two years have gone, yet now they're tasked with ending a two-game losing streak on the road.

Maryland will look for its second consecutive win against Nebraska in Lincoln when the two teams meet in Nebraska for the first time since 2023, when Jack Howes drilling a game-winning field goal to clinch bowl eligibility. Yet the program is in a much different place now than it was during the last meeting.

After being dominated in every facet of the game en route to a 54-3 beatdown against UCLA last week, the hot seat talk has only picked up surrounding Mike Locksley's status in College Park. While admin has remained involved in trying to right the ship over the last two weeks, Mike Locksley has been transparent in his understanding of the growing questions regarding his job security. Locksley was also transparent when asked if he thought his tenure could be over during the 54-3 loss during his appearances with The Junkies on 106.7 on Wednesday.

"I've got to tell you that those thoughts never crossed my mind. And I say this with all authenticity -- I'll tell you how. I've been through a lot. I've had some really tough losses. I mean I've buried a child before. When you start putting things in perspective and that situation has done that for me and maybe one of the silver linings of it is, you know what, what did I do when I found out? I got up and I did whatever work I had to do to get myself in a position to do that now. And that's what I did when I took the job over here at Maryland. And that's what -- I'll do it until they tell me I can't."

Locksley was also asked about Maryland's press conferences, which have become a growing topic online. Maryland drew criticism from media for not allowing follow-up questions, which was communicated to all media during preseason in an effort for every reporter in attendance to at least have the opportunity to ask a question. Locksley added he also asked Maryland PR about the growing criticism, which is outside of Locksley's responsibilities.

"I've answered every tough question that has been posed to me. I've even had to answer statements at times, which is different for me as a coach."
