https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hDsKterZbAY Maryland is now one week away from their spring game and after the second scrimmage during spring ball, head coach Mike Locksley was pleased with “a much cleaner scrimmage” on the offensive side of the ball while the defense’s tackling stuck out. “When I evaluate these scrimmages, the thing that I'm looking for is the rhythm of how we were playing and I throw it on offense. Today we got into a pretty good rhythm where the play calls were coming in, guys were getting lined up a lot more cleaner. We were getting the ball snapped in that 24 to 28-second play clock window that we want to get it snapped in. I thought our defense did a better job tackling this scrimmage leading into our spring game. This is really how I wanted to see us play there in The Shell. Improvement from a week ago to this week. We got a lot of good situations coached up whether it's our coming out situations, our third down. I just thought overall it was really productive and has us heading in the right direction as we finish up spring ball.” Locksley also pointed to their success out of the transfer portal when asked about who has stuck out thus far. “I think as a group, I mean all of the transfer portal guys that we were able to bring in midyear, you see guys like Avante Williams and he's starting to get a comfort level back there in the back end and made some plays out there this past week. Jaquan Shepherd looks like a natural fit over there and really looks comfortable. The more we've gone through spring practices, I've been really impressed with the young guy, Jordan Phillips and what he's been able to do on the defensive side of the ball. On the offensive side, Kaden Prather has really proven to be what we thought he could be and is only going to get better as he gets more comfort level in how we call it and how we play. Again, you know, Billy's development, I know he played a bunch for us a year ago. Tyrese Chambers has jumped out, so I've been really happy and pleased." The big question is how Maryland will fare on the offensive side of the trenches with DJ Glaze the lone returning starter, but once again, Locksley pointed to two portal additions as likely answers to protect Taulia Tagovailoa in the pocket. "We did a good job, Corey Bullock and are both as advertised in terms of they both have worked themselves into possibly starting roles and I've been really happy with the way these guys have performed.” Next week's spring game is set for a noon kickoff.
