McDonogh OL Tamarus Walker Commits to Maryland

McDonogh (MD) offensive guard Tamarus Walker has announced his commitment to Maryland.

He joins the Terps’ 2023 class as a center and is fresh off his official visit to Maryland. Walker, a 6-foot-4, 295-pound lineman, visited Maryland back in early February and returned for spring practice back on April 5. He worked out at Maryland's Big Man camp last weekend which led to his official visit, a trip he had an idea he would make his commitment official. "They just treated me like family up there," Walker said after his official visit. "I always had a bond with the coaches but they just treated me like family up there. This weekend really put the icing on the cake."

Offensive lineman DJ Glaze hosted the in-state lineman on the visit as Walker gave his verbal to the staff early Saturday evening, committing over offers from UConn, Boston College, Bowling Green, Kent State and Toledo among others. Quality control coach Jerome Prutos reached out to Walker for the first time last week while offensive line coach Brian Braswell led the way in his recruitment. “I like and learned that he’s very straightforward. He’s going to give you all he’s got to be successful as a player and person in life,” Walker told Inside the Black and Gold back in February. “He gives his linemen all he’s got.”

Walker admitted he felt at home in College Park on his visit earlier in the recruiting process. “Just like talking to the coaches, it's always been a dream school playing for my home state school and I always wanted to put on for my state. Then the coaches, it just feels like family up there. It felt like the right place to be," Walker said on Sunday.

Walker becomes the third commitment out of McDonogh in the last three classes, joining sophomore safety Dante Trader Jr. and incoming freshman tight end Preston Howard. "Dante is going to be starting next year, so he's always been in my ear about it."

Walker becomes the third commitment in Maryland’s 2023 class, joining quarterback Robert “Champ” Long and wide receiver Nasir Addison.

Walker is not yet rated by On3 but is rated a three-star prospect and an 84 overall by 247Sports, sitting as the 26th-best prospect in Maryland.
