Maryland football will return home this weekend as a healthy favorite against Indiana, but they’ll hit the road in week six to face Ohio State. Now, the Terps will play on national television for the third time this season as Maryland vs. Ohio State has been selected as part of FOX’s Big Noon Saturday, per release.
The two teams are set for a noon kickoff, while the game will also air on the Maryland Sports Radio Network.
Maryland could also enter next weekend’s road game as a ranked team after unofficially checking in at 29th and 31st in the updated coaches and AP polls. For fans, next Saturday will be the first test to complete a key objective this season as the Terps look to take down one of the Big Ten elite in Mike Locksley’s fifth season as head coach.
Maryland has never beaten Ohio State, nonetheless on the road, with a 21-point loss in 2015 the smallest margin of defeat in Columbus, but this year's game could have a different feel to it. After losing 66-17 in Columbus back in 2021, Maryland bounced back and battled against Ohio State for 60 minutes, with a Buckeyes scoop-and-score with nine seconds left handing the Terps a 43-30 defeat. In front of a packed SECU Stadium, the narrow loss not only produced a silent commitment from former four-star Rico Walker that weekend but became a selling point this offseason as head coach Mike Locksley and the Terps looked for the final pieces to take down one of the Big Ten elite.
Maryland moved to 4-0 after dominating Michigan State, 31-9, in East Lansing on Saturday. Maryland has scored 31 or more points in each of the first four games of the season for the first time in program history, while leading the Big Ten in total offense (450.5)
Ohio State, meanwhile, delivered Notre Dame a 17-14 defeat on the final play of the game in South Bend. After head coach Ryan Day declared “it’s always been Ohio against the world,” the Buckeyes jumped two spots in the latest AP Poll as the Buckeyes enjoy an early season bye this weekend.
