Maryland has a question mark at the top of the cornerback room with Dontay Joyner facing legal battles, but with Jamare Glasker also set to return in 2026, Maryland still has veteran leadership to lean on in a pair of cornerbacks thanks to the transfer portal after adding four-year veteran Amari Jackson out of Boston College.
Originally from McDonough, Ga., Jackson, a 5-foot-11, 190 pounds corner, started all 13 games as a sophomore for the Eagles including five as a freshman. Jackson has strong tackling statistics for a corner and has two career interceptions including a pick-six during his sophomore campaign. Jackson suffered injuries in both his junior and senior seasons that caused him to miss 14 total games. During his return last year, Jackson recorded three pass breakups against SMU. With recent durability concerns, Jackson enters the Terps corner room as experienced depth behind the two starters and a potential nickel option.
At Boston College, Jackson played a heavy amount of reps at mostly the boundary corner spot and mixed in some nickel action. He is used to playing in tighter spaces and was even used in some nickel blitz packages.
Jackson, wearing number 24, is a speedy corner that has great recovery and shadowing of faster receivers. Jackson has fluid hip motion that keeps him with receivers off the line on deeper routes and the speed to boot to stay in line. He can often be quickly beaten off the line of scrimmage but has great recovery skills with his hips and speed. On the first play, Jackson loses inside leverage on the bottom part of the screen and quickly recovers and stays glued to his man. In the second play, Jackson is impressive being locked onto his man and shadows him perfectly and finishes with strong ball skills.
