Maryland Tracking West Coast Lineman

Maryland dipped into the transfer portal to round out its offensive line for the upcoming season, but after signing a pair from the high school ranks in the 2023 cycle, the offensive line will once again be a big priority for Maryland in the upcoming cycle. The staff has ample local targets both inside and out with guys like Kyle Altuner, Jordan Seaton and Mike Williams among others in the mix, but the Terps are tracking another. Modesto Christian (CA) four-star offensive tackle Manasse Itete has garnered mostly a west coast offer list thus far but will speak with the Maryland staff this week with a possible offer coming. “ Jeremy reached out to me today. He passed the offensive lineman coach’s number and said he’d text me ,” Itete told IBG. Itete, a 6-foot-7, 260-pound lineman, was already familiar with Maryland after analyst Gary Wortham Jr. initiated contact earlier this fall. “I know like coach Gary, he’s over there. I’ve talked to a couple coaches from Maryland, I get a good vibe from them. It’s been about three, four months. Me and talked a lot. He’s a great guy.” https://twitter.com/GregBiggins/status/1621954620460498944 Maryland hasn’t had much success plucking cross-country targets over the last five years with only a handful of signings, but for Itete, distance doesn’t matter as much. Itete moved to the states from Congo and has since settled in at Modesto Christian (CA) as a two-sport athlete. After averaging 10.4 points and 6.9 rebounds per game on 61% shooting as a sophomore, Itete is even drawing interest on the basketball side but his story is why proximity isn’t a focal point. “Why not? I’m already far away from home. I’m from Africa, far from home so I can care less where I’m going,” Itete said when asked if a visit to Maryland is a possibility. “I just need a place where I’ll be safe, they have my best interest. Location doesn’t matter.” With offers from Miami, Utah, Oregon, Florida State and USC among others, Itete took three visits last month as he checked out Washington, Arizona, Arizona State. All his suitors are on the table for his next round of visits. “I know in March I’ll take some visits too, but nothing set.” Itete is rated a four-star prospect and a 91 overall by On3. He’s rated the 170th-best prospect in the country and 16th-best in California.
