After flirting with other schools and venturing out to schools like Maryland, Colorado and Pitt, Wekiva (FL) three-star defensive lineman Sincere Edwards officially backed off his longtime verbal commitment to UCF late last month despite the Knights getting a chance to solidify his decision with an official visit the first weekend of June. One day after announcing his decommitted and becoming an uncommitted prospect, Edwards made his way back to Pittsburgh for his second official visit of the month with the Panthers in hot pursuit. “I really did enjoy myself, it was a great visit. They’ve done a good job showing how I fit in, I really liked the environment up there,” Edwards told IBG. The dead period is in effect until late July, but Edwards said he’s done for visits this summer. “I’m pretty much just focusing on the season now,” he added. A commitment isn’t on the horizon, either. “Right now I don’t have a preference, I’m just taking it day by day.” Maryland, meanwhile, found themselves inside his top five as he announced his finalists along with his change in his recruitment. Outside linebacker coach James Thomas and defensive coordinator Brian Williams leading the way. Edwards made his way to Maryland in the spring for a two-day visit where he was able to connect with Jordan Phillips, a Florida native and current Terp, as both sides remain in close contact. “It’s a real good strong relationship between us. I’m still definitely interested in Maryland.” Edwards was originally scheduled to officially visit Maryland before plans were postponed, but an official visit remains on the table heading into the fall. “Probably in December. There’s a very good chance right now that I take that visit probably in December.” USF also made Edwards’ top five, while Penn State is lurking with assistant JaJuan Seider in pursuit after pulling the trigger on an offer to the 6-foot-4, 250-pound lineman. As a junior at Wekiva High School in Apopka, Florida, Edwards recorded 78 tackles including 48 solo, 27 tackles for loss, 16 sacks and recovered two fumbles. Edwards is rated a three-star prospect and an 87 overall by On3, sitting as the 110th-best prospect in Florida. Related Links
