Maryland signee Ryan Howerton among standouts in UA All-American Game

St. Vincent Pallotti (MD) offensive lineman Ryan Howerton was the lone Terp in action during Wednesday's Under Armour All-American game, but he didn't disappoint after being named a top performer in the all-star game. Via Rivals: The in-state get for Maryland was one of the few offensive linemen to mark his mark as a blocker on a night dominated by each defensive front. He capped the week with some stout wins at the point of contact and showed more efficiency in his footwork against smaller rushers. Dominant defender Dominick McKinley endorsed Howerton's overall game after working against him Wednesday, too. Howerton was the lone offensive lineman highlighted by Rivals among the top performers in Wednesday's game as he and Team Ice defeated Team Wire, 39-9, last night. Howerton, who lined up at tackle on Wednesday, was also able to flash through drills during the week including wins in one-on-one drills against Texas A&M signee Dealyn Evans on consecutive reps on Tuesday. His play through the fall into Wednesday's bowl game gives credence to the local pickup as Howerton is a big piece in Maryland's signed 2024 class. Head coach Mike Locksley and the staff put a premium on the position after signing eight high school linemen with aspirations of reshaping the future of the room. Howerton, a 6-foot-4, 295-pound lineman, primarily played right tackle through high school and was a consistent target for the staff ever since the spring. The in-state pledge committed to Maryland over West Virginia and Pitt back in mid-July after the Terps were able to capitalize on his June official visit. The local product never wavered in his pledge and attended a pair of home games and will head to College Park among the nine high school early enrollees next semester. He wasn't the only signee honored as QB Khristian Martin was named All-Metro Player of the Year, joining QB Russell Wilson as the only players to repeat. Martin split the honor with Dinwiddie ATH Harry Dalton in 2022, but now, he makes history with the award after throwing for 1,726 yards, 14 touchdowns and four interceptions while completing over 50% of his passes. Martin also added 367 yards and six touchdowns on 74 carries. Meanwhile, Maryland WR signee Jahmari Powell-Wonson was named to the MPSAA All-State Offense team this week and was tabbed as "may be the most talented receiver to come out of the Baltimore City public school system since Poly’s Antonio ‘Buttons’ Freeman graduated in 1991" after posting 1,151 yards and 13 touchdowns on 59 catches as a senior. https://twitter.com/Jp0well_/status/1742637252549689729 He ends his career ranked ninth in MPSSAA history in receiving yards (2,681) and tied for 11th in receiving touchdowns (34) and nearly 3,400 all-purpose yards.
