Maryland set to host local athlete last for June official visit

McDonogh (MD) three-star Jeff Exinor will resume his official visits in just two weeks with his recruitment nearing the final month. “I’ve got all my officials yet and the interest hasn’t really changed so this is what I’m rolling with,” Exinor told IBG. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound athlete kicked off his visits with a trip to Virginia Tech for their spring game last month as assistant Fontell Mines leads the Hokies’ efforts. That strong pursuit through the spring has paid off after Exinor admitted his extended visit to Blacksburg “really set the bar high” for the rest of his visits. “The people there were amazing, especially for the spring game. They had a decent amount of fans there and just being around Malik and Faheem the whole time, two guys I’ve known since I was young—played with and against each other. The fact that we made it to the same visit at the same college is kind of crazy,” Exinor said. “V-Tech was great. The academic support is great, the culture is great. Just amazing.” Who ultimately will get the next visit still remains undecided. Exinor was originally slated to visit Maryland the weekend of May 31 before altering his schedule once again as Michigan State jumped into the picture. The Spartans are now tentatively scheduled to host the fringe four-star for an official visit during the final weekend in May, but that’s subject to change as the two sides confirm plans heading into the rest of May. The next visit Exinor knows he’ll take is a trip to Penn State the weekend of June 7 followed by Syracuse the weekend of June 14 before wrapping up his official visit schedule with a trip to Maryland the weekend of June 21. “I talked with coach Braswell and they’re cool with it so they’ll be my last one. I’m excited for that one, honestly. It’ll be my last one and it’s close to home so it’s not like I’m not going anywhere too far. Really get to see what they’re about.” Exinor fits as a potential tight end in College Park as he and tight ends coach Kevin Sumlin have been able to connect through the recruiting process at times, but offensive line coach Brian Braswell has led the way ever since Exinor first surfaced on the Terps’ radar when he arrived at McDonogh. “He’s been recruiting me since freshman year at this point so we know each other real well. The time with coach Sumlin will come.” With his final suitors set, Exinor added a decision won’t come long after his trip to Maryland with tentative plans to make his commitment “a week, two weeks after” his final visit. What is the biggest question to separate his top schools heading into his visits? “I want to be a business major so the business school is a big portion for me. The degree, the support to help me do what I want to do in life is a big thing in my decision for me and my family. That’s the big thing. Football is cool and all, of course the weight training, schedule, how everything works matters but me and my family are more concerned about the school itself and how can they make me be a better person.” Jeff Exinor is rated a three-star prospect and an 88 overall by On3, sitting as the 15th-best prospect in Maryland.
