Sweedish forward Bobi Klintman added an offer from Maryland back on June 2 after head coach Mark Turgeon connected with the 6-foot-9, 200-pound four-star. After releasing a top six of Kansas, Maryland, Rutgers, Texas A&M, Virginia, and Loyola Chicago last week, Klintman is set to officially visit Maryland this weekend for his first of five officials.
Klintman fills a positional need for Maryland this cycle after missing on in-state four-star Cam Whitmore and four-star Aidan Shaw, who is set to commit this weekend. Klintman, a versatile wing that exudes athleticism, is set to enroll at Sunrise Christian Academy for his senior season but flashed at the U18 Nordic Cup for Sweden after averaging 13 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals in just 24 minutes per game. Klintman has maintained that he’s eyeing the college route as opposed to playing professionally overseas, hoping to tap into the potential that he brings on the court.
“I would say I’m a versatile wing,” Klintman told 247Sports last week. “I can play make, I can shoot and I’m pretty athletic too. I can do a little bit of everything and I’m 6-foot-9.” Maryland was in to see Klintman practice last Thursday as the staff looks to close on the rising target.
With Klintman set to arrive on Friday, Maryland got more good news on Wednesday evening after Winston-Salem four-star center Christ Essandoko announced his top seven as the Terps remain in the mix. Georgetown, Illinois, Maryland, NC State, Oral Roberts, Providence, and Seton Hall all made the top group for the 7-foot center while the Terps hosted Essandoko for an official visit back on June 28. Assistant Danny Manning has led the way with Essandoko while head coach Mark Turgeon has established a connection dating back to his official, while the Maryland staff took advantage of the open eval period to watch Essandoko in-person this summer.
The French native averaged 12.4 points and three rebounds per game for Boo Williams on the EYBL circuit this summer. Essandoko is rated a three-star prospect and an 88 overall by 247Sports, sitting as the 24th-best center in the 2022 class.
