Maryland set to face Syracuse at Barclays Center, finalizes non-conference schedule

Writer: Ahmed GhafirAhmed Ghafir

Maryland basketball's final non-conference game of the 2024-25 season was announced on Monday as the Terps will head back to the Barclays Center to face Syracuse on Saturday, Dec. 21 in the 2024 Gotham Classic. Game time and TV assignment will be announced at a later date, per release. The Barclays Center has been a frequent destination in Maryland's non-conference schedule over the years after facing Kentucky (2012), UConn (2013), Richmond (2016), Kansas State (2016), Florida (2021) and Tennessee (2022). This will mark the tenth all-time meeting between the two teams and while Maryland holds a 5-4 lead in the all-time series, Syracuse has won each of the last four matchups while three of the last four games have been decided by a single point. Maryland's last win against Syracuse came back on Dec. 6, 1980 when Albert King and Greg Manning tied for a game-high 21 points in an 83-73 win at the Carrier Dome. Syracuse finished 20-12 (11-9) in the 2023-24 season before a first-round loss vs. NC State in the ACC Tournament ended their season. Like Maryland, Syracuse also declined a bid to the NIT with the portal window quickly approaching at the time. The Orange are led by a pair of returning starters in JJ Starling (13.3 ppg) and Chris Bell (12 ppg), while former St. John's four-star Donnie Freeman joins four transfers ahead of Adrian Autry's second season as head coach. Maryland basketball will open the season against Manhattan on Nov. 4 while the announcement finalizes a non-conference slate that now includes Villanova and Marquette alongside the Orange. Via release: Tickets will go on-sale to the public tomorrow, Tuesday, July 30, at Noon EST and can be purchased on Ticketmaster.com. Season tickets for the 2024-25 season are now on sale starting at $199. Maryland Young Alumni (those who graduated within the last five years) receive a 48 percent discount on season tickets, while current Maryland Parents who have a student enrolled for the year are eligible for a 20 percent discount on two season tickets.
