Maryland will host six official visitors this weekend, but the two commitments in the 2023 class will also make their way to campus this month.
Saint Peter's Prep (NJ) quarterback Champ Long will officially visit Maryland the weekend of June 10 as he takes his first visit since making it to campus for spring practice. Long, a 6-foot, 205-pound quarterback, committed to Maryland nearly a year ago after throwing for offensive coordinator Dan Enos and the staff and after visiting Florida State days later, Long called the Maryland staff to let him know where he wanted to play his college ball. “It was just a good environment with the coaches, how they coached at the camp,” Long told Inside the Black & Gold following his decision. “It was just very family-oriented when I was taking a little tour of the facilities and seeing a couple of the guys come out of the weight room. Just really family-oriented and I really liked that about it.” The New Jersey quarterback soaked in his first full season as the starting quarterback last year and let his team to an 8-4 record.
Meanwhile, Irvington three-star wide receiver Nasir Addison tells Inside the Black and Gold that he will officially visit Maryland the weekend of June 24. Addison has competed in track & field nearly his entire life and was named to the 2022 US Outdoor High School Track Nationals back in mid-April. He's drawn outside interest from Michigan State, Virginia and Georgia Tech among others but has repeatedly told IBG that he’s locked in with the Terps. “I got a chance to look at the facilities with my mom, my family which they loved it so I loved it too. I was on the field with coach [Henry] Baker and coach Zohn [Burden] when they were doing warmups and stuff and that was fun, too," Addison said after his decision back in October. "They just told me to make sure I have a fun time. We hung out a little bit, we had dinner then we were talking about academics and the academic facilities, the engineering building. It’s amazing.”
Cornerbacks coach Henry Baker led the way with both commitments this cycle as the staff looks to add to the 2023 haul with several official visits set This month.
Long and Addison are both rated three-star prospects and an 85 overall by On3. Long checks in as the 72nd-best quarterback in the nation and 18th-best prospect in New Jersey, while Addison checks in as the 21st best prospect in New Jersey.
