Maryland will prepare for Virginia on a short week, but after that, the Terps are back on primetime TV.
Maryland’s road game against Michigan State on September 23 will be featured on NBC, the NBC’s B1G College Countdown Show announced prior to Saturday night’s kickoff.
Kickoff is still set for 3:30 PM, per release, as the two teams are set to square off to begin Big Ten play.
Michigan State has cruised through the first two weeks of the season, first defeating Central Michigan 31-7 before dominating Richmond in a 45-14 win on Saturday. The competition gets stiffer as the Spartans welcome eighth-ranked Washington next weekend, but the on-field performance is far from the only storyline swirling in East Lansing.
Hours after Michigan State’s win over Richmond, USA Today broke the news that head coach Mel Tucker is subject of a sexual harassment claim, detailing allegations that Tucker engaged in allegations of unwanted phone sex with prominent sexual assault activist Brenda Tracy in April of 2022. Whether Tucker ends up coaching the Spartans against Maryland—or Washington this weekend—remains to be seen. Tucker agreed to a ten-year, $95 million extension in November of 2021.
Maryland, meanwhile, overcame an early 14-0 deficit to handle Charlotte in a 38-20 win on NBC. Running back Roman Hemby accounted for over 210 yards of total offense in the win, while the defense forced six consecutive punts before generating consecutive turnovers to turn the lights off for Charlotte.
Maryland trails the all-time matchup, 10-3, but ended a four-year winless streak against Michigan State last season. Maryland rode Taulia Tagovailoa’s 300-plus passing yard performance to a win, while Antwain Littleton added another 120 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
