Maryland returns to action on Tuesday night when they host top-ranked Purdue, looking for its signature win as head coach Kevin Willard looks to start the new year on a good note. Maryland was able to take down Purdue at home last season as Willard looks for a similar result on Tuesday night, and the staff will do so with a local target in attendance after soaking in last season’s upset. 2025 Overtime Elite (MD) four-star guard Tyler Jackson, who tells IBG he unofficially visited for the Coppin State game, will be back on campus for the second time within a week as he will unofficially visit Maryland on Tuesday night. The 6-foot-2, 152-pound guard has long been on Maryland’s radar ever since he began his high school career at St. Frances (MD), teaming up with current freshman Jahnathan Lamothe and five-star target Derik Queen, before Jackson made the offseason transfer to Overtime Elite. With assistants David Cox and Greg Manning Jr. making it an emphasis to maintain contact in the months since, Jackson said the mutual interest with Maryland never faded. “Maryland stayed the same, they stayed consistent,” he told IBG. “I love Maryland. I like them a lot. They’ve been there since I was a freshman so even when they were recruiting Jahn in high school, I’ve always been familiar with Maryland. Coach Cox, coach Manning. Everybody’s been reaching out. I’ve been talking with them a lot.” Jackson’s most recent unofficial for the Coppin State game gave the top-40 prospect an in-depth look at Willard’s program, giving the Baltimore native a chance to build on what he’s already familiar with in College Park. “They told me more about the school, toured me around on my unofficial. They talked to me a lot about the alumni, how the alumni base is, how vast it is and it’s not just a basketball school. It’s just a great atmosphere,” he added. “A lot of fans were there so that was good.” While Maryland is on Jackson’s shortlist to receive an official visit, Willard & Co. will have their work cut out for them with Ole Miss, LSU, Alabama, Auburn and Kansas all in the mix to finalize official visits. “I’ll probably go to Alabama and Ole Miss when I get back to OTE,” Jackson added. While the four-star returns to Overtime Elite on Wednesday, Jackson only wants to see one thing on Tuesday night. “Just Maryland come out with the dub like they did last year. It was crazy last year. That game was epic.” Tyler Jackson is rated a four-star prospect and a 96 overall by On3, sitting as the 34th-best player in the country and third-best combo guard in the 2025 class. Related Links
