Maryland has watched a handful of veterans leave the program through the first two weeks of the offseason and on Monday, two more departed from the program with RB Ramon Brown and LB Riyad Wilmot set to transfer elsewhere Veteran linebacker Riyad Wilmot was the first to announce his intention to enter the transfer portal after three seasons with the program. "I want to first start off by thanking everyone at the University of Maryland. Thank you coach Locks and coach Williams for giving me the opportunity to play this sport on the collegiate level and making my dream come true. I also want to thank my brothers for making the years worth it. After long talks with my family, I've decided to enter the transfer portal," Wilmot wrote on Instagram. Wilmot joined the program as a three-star signee out of St. Thomas Aquinas during the 2020 class where he developed into a rotational piece heading into the 2023 season. In ten games, Wilmot posted 12 tackles and one sack as a redshirt junior. Running back Ramon Brown was the second player to enter the transfer portal on Monday afternoon after appearing in 12 games over two seasons. Brown, a former four-star recruit out of Manchester (VA), flipped from Virginia Tech to Maryland the week before signing day to close the 2022 cycle as the former Virginia standout was a top target throughout the cycle. After totaling 122 yards on 34 attempts as a freshman, Brown was hampered by injuries among other things through the 2023 season after logging just one carry in the road loss vs. Northwestern. Maryland is still expected to return Roman Hemby to the 2024 running back room with Colby McDonald, Antwain Littleton and Nolan Ray still in the program. Maryland also has a verbal commitment from St. Frances (MD) running back DeJuan Williams in the 2024 cycle.
