Maryland's official visit weekend beginning June 6 proved to be a big piece in laying the foundation for the 2025 cycle after head coach Mike Locksley and his staff reeled in eight of the ten visitors. One of those visitors who jumped aboard was Gadsden County (FL) three-star Lamar Williams, who shifted up his commitment timeframe after giving the staff his pledge by the end of his official visit. His official visit marked the first visit to Maryland but it won't be the last as he tells IBG he plans on returning to College Park on July 26 and will stay through the 27th. Williams is expected to make the trip to campus with his family and head coach as co-defensive coordinator Brian Williams has led the way in his recruitment. Williams initially planned to announce his commitment on August 7 before pushing up his timeline to late July, but while Williams has looked to shut down his recruitment, that hasn't stopped the local schools from showing interest with both UCF and Florida State still trying to kick the tires on their local target. Since his commitment, Williams has maintained contact with Williams while building his relationship with offensive line coach Brian Braswell where the two have been able to drill into the three-star’s technique heading into his senior season. Maryland’s stellar relationship with many in Williams’ camp helped set the stage for the summer commitment where the 6-foot-7, 295-pound tackle pledge adds the type of size that’s needed to round out the offensive tackle rotation. Maryland also has a pledge from Lakeland (FL) tackle Ben Beymer, a 6-foot-8, 294-pound tackle, to restock the position this cycle. “I loved it. The coaches were showing me love and they made it clear I’m a big priority for them,” Williams told IBG about his official visit. “I was with coach Bras and coach Marcus and the players, Dumervil. is a good coach. He’s been wanting me to get up here show me everything so it was good getting a chance to see everything he’s talking about.” Maryland currently has 20 pledges in the 2025 class and will look to add to that with four-star Zymear Smith now nearing a decision within the next week. Lamar Williams is rated a three-star prospect and an 87 overall by On3, checking in as the nation's 67th-best offensive tackle.
