With football season around the corner, Maryland basketball is also inching closer to the first season under head coach Kevin Willard as the program officially announced its non-conference slate.

The previous report about Maryland’s non-conference schedule held true as the Terps will open the season on November 7 vs. Niagara. The schedule also features a pair of expected top-25 opponents in UCLA and Tennessee with the games just three days apart. Maryland will face Tennessee at the Barclays Center in the fifth-ever matchup between the two teams then host UCLA, a now future conference opponent, three days later in College Park.

Bolstering the strength of schedule has been a point of emphasis during the coaching search conducted by athletic director Damon Evans back in the winter heading into the spring as Willard looks to bring the enthusiasm back to Maryland basketball. “We are going to bring back that passion, that energy that coach [Gary] Williams coached with, that his players played with and that the swagger was something that a kid that grew up in Huntington, Long Island turning on ESPN and watching a Maryland game, all of a sudden wants to go play at the University of Maryland and play for a guy because that's how his teams played.

In conference play, Maryland will host and travel to Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin this upcoming season. Maryland will host Illinois, Indiana and Northwestern, while the Terps will travel to Iowa, Michigan State and Rutgers.

He begins his tenure as the tenth head coach of Maryland basketball with 28 top-25 wins as Maryland fans anxiously await that number to grow in 2022-23.
