Maryland non-rev report: men's soccer climbs inside top five nationally

Men’s soccer

With three games left in the season, 4th-ranked Maryland men’s soccer has remained unbeaten. Their defeat over Ohio State, 4-0, marked their 12th consecutive matchup in which no team has beaten the Terps.

Maryland hadn’t had a victory over the Buckeyes since 2022, but a fast start in the first half set the tone for the remainder of the game. Within the first 46 seconds, senior Joseph Umberto Picotto found the net and scored the first goal of the game.

Goalie sophomore Laurin Mack recorded his 10th career shutout and his seventh shutout win of the 2025 season. He also received his third Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week.

"Shutouts are team achievements. Obviously, we have a great goalkeeper and a great back line and a great center-back partnership. It takes the whole team committed to a cause,” head coach Sasho Cirovski said after the game.

Another Maryland player was awarded Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season, senior Tristen Rose after his contribution to the defense against 13th-ranked Rutgers and Ohio State.

The Terps are 9-0-3 overall and 5-0-2 in the Big Ten and will host 14th-ranked Indiana on Friday at 8 p.m. Maryland will also welcome the 2005 national championship team back to Ludwig Field that night.

Women’s Soccer

Maryland women’s soccer 6-11( 2-8 Big Ten) has not been able to secure a win in seven games and fell in a close matchup to Michigan, 4-3, and again to Ohio State, 3-1.

The Terps nearly had a victory against Michigan and scored the last three goals in the second half but couldn’t close it out.

“The team could have given up and they didn't, and the way that they represented themselves in the final 30 minutes of the game was great to see," head coach Michael Marchiano said after the Michigan game.

Maryland scored the first and only goal in the first period against Ohio State, but the Buckeyes built momentum in the second half. Sophomore Maya Cheeseboro made her debut in the second half, and sophomore Faith Luckey totaled 12 saves together against Ohio State.

Only one game remains in the season for the Terps, against Rutgers on Sunday at 1 p.m.

Volleyball

After a losing streak, Maryland volleyball looked like it had started to find its rhythm with a win, but the Terps were defeated by Michigan State, 3-2.

Duru Gökçen totaled four blocks, pushing her to 89 this season and ranking her 1st-ranked in the Big Ten.

Maryland 8-10( 1-7 Big Ten) heads to the West Coast to face 22nd-ranked Southern California on Thursday at 10 p.m.

Field Hockey

11th-ranked Maryland field hockey 8-6 (4-3 Big Ten) received two consecutive losses, a 2-1 defeat to Indiana followed by a 2-1 loss to 1st-ranked Northwestern.

The Terps had their first shootout of the season against Indiana after both teams tied 1-1 at the end of the game. Neither team scored in overtime, and the game went to a shootout where Indiana secured its first conference victory of the season.

Northwestern almost had its unbeaten streak stripped from them until the third quarter, when the Wildcats made two goals for the win against the Terps.

Maryland will face 17th-ranked Rutgers on the road Friday at 3 p.m.
